Croswell-Lexington Varsity Pioneers Fall To Almont After Surrendering Big Fifth Inning

Almont scored six runs in the fifth inning, which helped them defeat Croswell-Lexington Varsity Pioneers 11-1 on Tuesday.

A single by M Derk following a 6-pitch at-bat put Almont on the board in the bottom of the first.

Samantha Tunich singled down the right field line, which helped Croswell-Lexington Varsity Pioneers tie the game at one in the top of the third.

Almont captured the lead, 4-1, in the bottom of the third after C Wangler laid down a sacrifice bunt, Croswell-Lexington Varsity Pioneers committed an error, and K Tencza was struck by a pitch, each scoring one run.

Almont scored six runs on two hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. A Baker laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run, Grace Stanton singled, scoring one run, Brooklyn Bunch drew a walk, scoring one run, Wangler drew a walk, scoring one run, Derk was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and A Geml singled, scoring one run.

Ella McMillan led things off in the circle for Croswell-Lexington Varsity Pioneers. The right-handed pitcher surrendered two hits and seven runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out six and walking two. Geml led things off in the circle for Almont. The pitcher allowed three hits and one run (zero earned) over five innings, striking out four and walking none.

Anastasia Pesina, Tunich, and Rozlynn Cayce each collected one hit for Croswell-Lexington Varsity Pioneers. Tunich led Croswell-Lexington Varsity Pioneers with one run batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day.

Wangler led the team with three runs batted in. Derk went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Almont in hits. Derk stole three bases. Almont had patience at the plate, amassing five walks for the game. Almont ran wild on the base paths, collecting six stolen bases for the game. Almont turned one double play in the game.

Next up for Croswell-Lexington Varsity Pioneers is a game against Almont Varsity Raiders on Tuesday.
