Croswell-Lexington Varsity Pioneers Fall After Strong Showing By Almont Varsity Raiders

Croswell-Lexington Varsity Pioneers couldn't keep up with Almont Varsity Raiders and fell 12-6 on Tuesday.

Almont Varsity Raiders got on the board in the top of the first inning after an error scored two runs, and Abigail Geml (2025) scored after tagging up.

Croswell-Lexington Varsity Pioneers jumped into the lead in the bottom of the first when Anastasia Pesina singled, scoring three runs, and Kaylee Schoen grounded out, scoring one run.

Almont Varsity Raiders took the lead in the top of the third. Geml (2025) singled, scoring two runs, to give Almont Varsity Raiders the advantage, 5-4.

Pesina singled down the left field line, which helped Croswell-Lexington Varsity Pioneers tie the game at five in the bottom of the third.

Croswell-Lexington Varsity Pioneers took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. A passed ball scored one run, to give Croswell-Lexington Varsity Pioneers the upper hand, 6-5.

Almont Varsity Raiders flipped the game on its head in the top of the fifth, scoring six runs on three hits to take the lead, 11-6. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Lauren Webster (2025) that drove in two.

Ella McMillan led things off in the circle for Croswell-Lexington Varsity Pioneers. The pitcher allowed eight hits and 12 runs (four earned) over seven innings, striking out eight and walking five. Maddie Derk (2028) stepped in the circle first for Almont Varsity Raiders. The right-handed pitcher allowed four hits and five runs (three earned) over two and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking one.

Pesina provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Croswell-Lexington Varsity Pioneers with two runs batted in. The third baseman went 2-for-4 on the day. Pesina and Rozlynn Cayce each collected two hits for Croswell-Lexington Varsity Pioneers.

Webster (2025) drove the middle of the lineup, leading Almont Varsity Raiders with three runs batted in. The third baseman went 2-for-4 on the day. Cora Wangler (2028) and Webster (2025) each collected two hits for Almont Varsity Raiders. Derk (2028) paced Almont Varsity Raiders with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying five walks for the game. Wangler (2028) and Derk (2028) each stole multiple bases for Almont Varsity Raiders. Almont Varsity Raiders stole 10 bases in the game.

Croswell-Lexington Varsity Pioneers will travel to Richmond for their next game on Tuesday.
