The 2021 Cros-Lex Freshman Volleyball Team had a tremendous season going 47-0. We have
played a very competitive schedule beating 18 Class A teams and 21 Class B teams and 8 Class C/D
teams. The Freshman have won a 12-team tournament at Mt. Morris and a 10-team tournament at
SCS Lakeview High School. The team has also won Eight Quads with 4, 5, or 6 teams in each Quad.
In addition to winning 47 Matches in a row the team has had winning streaks of 33 and 23 sets in a
row. Cros-Lex has also had 30 sets where they held teams to under 9 points. The 109-5 team overall
sets won is a new Cros-Lex Freshman school record along with the 47-0 match record.
The Cros-Lex team is made up of 8 players. When the season started they had to learn how to run a
5-1 offense, how to hit a float serve, how to play rotational defense and most importantly, how to win !
Their 8th grade record was 7-5, so a lot of learning took place in the early season.
Cros-Lex is a small Class B school in the thumb area. Only one player played on a club volleyball
team during the off season. We had only 9 players come out for tryouts and one player was hurt and
never played. Many of the schools we compete against will have 20 to 25 players tryout and many of
them play on a club team. So, the Cros-Lex team is always playing UP when we go to tournaments.
Some of the highlights to our season include a tournament championship at SCS Lakeview where we
beat four Class A schools and then a very competitive Lutheran north team in the Finals. A second
tournament championship at Mt. Morris where we beat a powerful Lake Orion team then beat a
determined Notre Dame Prep team twice to win the Championship.
The biggest factor in the teams success this year is the awesome team chemistry and friendship
between the players. The players never want to let their teammates down so, they play every point
like it’s the most important thing in the world.
Coach Dave Czech is in his fourth year at Cros-Lex. He previously coached for Michigan Elite, the
largest club volleyball organization in the country.
